Past Events
Georgetown Heritage hosts events both on our canal boat and in the neighborhood to tell the story of the C&O Canal, bring our community together, and celebrate our accomplishments. Past events include haunted Halloween rides on our canal boat, a canal storytelling event with performers from the Kennedy Center, and spring galas to celebrate our successes with our supporters and look to the future.

2023 ghost cruises
On October 27, 2023, guests attended the second edition of the Georgetown Heritage Ghost Cruises. Riders boarded the Georgetown Heritage - decorated with spooky lights, festive bunting, and plenty of spiderwebs - and took an evening ride on the Canal as they listened to a series of chilling and true tales from its haunted history. They also enjoyed food and beverages, mingling, music and dancing, and the first ever costume competition. It was a spooky good time!
2023 all aboard gala
On May 4, 2023, Georgetown Heritage held its annual Spring Soiree to celebrate the start of the 2023 C&O Canal Boat Season in Georgetown, as well as all of the progress made so far to restore and revitalize the C&O Canal National Historical Park. Event hosts also recognized the essential role of Georgetown Heritage’s partnership with the National Park Service and DC City Council in benefitting the Canal. Guests socialized and enjoyed food and drinks on a lovely night under a tent in the historic Mule Yard.
ferry tales
On April 13th, 2023, Georgetown Heritage partnered with the John F. Kennedy Center and C&O Canal National Historical Park to present a performance piece called Ferry Tales. This free show was performed right by Lock 3 of the Canal as part of the Kennedy Center’s RiverRun Festival. Guests enjoyed this wonderful performance sharing short tales honoring the depth’s of DC’s waters and the many forms of life that call them home.
all aboard gala 2022
On April 28th, 2022, Georgetown Heritage hosted the All Aboard Our Heritage event to celebrate the arrival of the new Georgetown Heritage Canal Boat. Guests enjoyed live music, cocktails and hors d’ouevres before being joined by special guests such as Mayor Muriel Bowser and Councilmember Brooke Pinto to christen the boat. The group then toured the new boat and looked forward to the start of a new era for the C&O Canal in Georgetown.
