Cancellations cannot be accepted online.
All payments are FINAL and NON-REFUNDABLE. However boat tours may be rebooked at least 48 hours prior to a reserved tour, to a later date without penalty, or unused tickets will be honored on regularly scheduled trips on a first come first serve basis for a similarly priced tour. Boat Tours without Assurance may be re-scheduled up to 48 hours prior to the original booking’s departure time. Guests who have purchased Assurance may re-schedule or cancel up to 2 hours prior to original departure time with a full refund, minus the cost of non-refundable Assurance. Assurance is not available on select boat tours, such as holiday, specialty or partnership tours.
All guests must check-in prior to boarding on the day of their canal boat tour.
Georgetown Heritage is UNABLE to compensate or reschedule any guests who miss their boat tour due to traffic or any other circumstance. However missed trips may be made up on a standby basis if there is room on a future boat tour. Waitlist Seats are only released at time of departure. Guests must check in at the ticket booth to be placed on the waitlist.
Our canal boat tour attempts to depart promptly at the scheduled time. In the rare event of extreme weather, your trip may be held dockside. If a guest does not want a dockside interpretive experience, they may rebook the tour to a later date at the ticket booth or online with no penalty.
All canal boat trips are subject to change without notice.
A minimum 48-hour notice prior to the boat tour date is required to reschedule your trip to another date. For guests with Assurance, a minimum 2-hour notice prior to the trip time is required to reschedule your trip to another date at no charge, minus the cost of Assurance.
Reservations are taken on a space-available basis and are not confirmed until payment is received.
Any discounts or coupons must be mentioned at the time of payment.
Service Charge and Gratuities. There is a service charge of $1.50 per ticket. Any gratuities which you may wish to leave in addition to the required administrative charge are entirely discretionary and should be based on the degree to which the service you received exceeded your expectations. Any such gratuities will be distributed to certain designated team members of the crew who performed services for your boat tour and you agree that Georgetown Heritage may do so.
Accessibility: Our goal is to make this interpretive boat tour as accessible as we can to all people who would like to take it. You should understand that this is a boat tour on a replica 19th century canal packet boat with an enclosed roof. If you need special assistance boarding the canal boat please call us at (202) 939-1399 or email us at tickets@georgetownheritage.org so we can be prepared for your visit. There are two locations for wheelchair boarding. Location 1 uses the general gangplank ramp at lock 3 next to the ticket booth. This ramp is at a grade of approximately 18% and does not meet ADA specifications. However, our boat crew can assist people in wheelchairs who weigh less than 250 lbs. board and disembark the boat at this location. You must agree to the terms and conditions of boarding to use this service. If you are being dropped off by car for a Location 1 boarding, pull up to the canal on 30th Street and come to the ticket booth. Location 2 uses a gangplank at level 4 that meets ADA grade specifications. Boarding and de-boarding at level 4 takes place after the boat has locked through lock 4. If you are being dropped off by car to board at level 4, pull up to the canal on Thomas Jefferson Street at the north side of the canal and proceed to the gangplank to the west.If you need special interpretive accommodation for visual or hearing impairment, please call (202) 939-1399 or email tickets@georgetownheritage.org us so we can be best prepared for your tour.
In compliance with U.S. Coast Guard requirements, photo I.D. is required of all passengers 18 years of age or older.
By attending a Georgetown Heritage boat tour, you agree that we may take photographs or video of the tour or the event you are attending, and we may use those photographs or videos on our website and for other promotional purposes.
Should Georgetown Heritage cancel your boat tour for any reason, the primary guest listed on the reservation will be contacted via phone and/or email (please ensure all contact information on your reservation is correct). If Georgetown Heritage cancels the boat tour, each reservation will be given the option to reschedule, or be refunded.
Georgetown Heritage reserves the right to refuse service or remove guests from its boat, event or premises at any time if determined, in Georgetown Heritage’s sole discretion, to be necessary (1) for appropriate safety reasons, (2) if a guest causes discomfort, inconvenience, or annoyance to other guests, crew members or agents, or (3) if a guest’s behavior is deemed to threaten the safety, good order or discipline.
For the safety of Georgetown Heritage’s crew and guests, all persons, purses, handbags, and backpacks are subject to search before boarding the Georgetown Heritage vessel. Georgetown Heritage reserves the right to not allow any bag, parcel or other item and to deal with any unattended object, bag, backpack, or luggage in such way as Georgetown Heritage considers appropriate.
The use of illegal or controlled substances, including smoking marijuana, tobacco, e-cigarettes or other products that produce a vapor or smoke are not permitted at any time.
Limitation on Liability. (a) IN THE EVENT YOU ARE INJURED, BECOME ILL, OR DIE, OR YOUR PROPERTY IS LOST OR DAMAGED, GEORGETOWN HERITAGE WILL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DAMAGES UNLESS THE OCCURRENCE WAS DUE TO GEORGETOWN HERITAGE’S NEGLIGENCE OR WILLFUL FAULT. GEORGETOWN HERITAGE DISCLAIMS LIABILITY TO YOU UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FOR INFLICTION OF EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, MENTAL SUFFERING OR PSYCHOLOGICAL INJURY WHICH WAS NOT: (i) THE RESULT OF PHYSICAL INJURY TO YOU CAUSED BY THE NEGLIGENCE OR FAULT OF A CREWMEMBER OR THE MANAGER, AGENT, MASTER, OWNER OR OPERATOR OF THE BOAT; (ii) THE RESULT OF YOU HAVING BEEN AT ACTUAL RISK OF PHYSICAL INJURY, AND SUCH RISK WAS CAUSED BY THE NEGLIGENCE OR FAULT OF A CREWMEMBER OR THE MANAGER, AGENT, MASTER, OWNER OR OPERATOR OF THE BOAT; OR (iii) INTENTIONALLY INFLICTED BY A CREWMEMBER OR THE MANAGER, AGENT, MASTER, OWNER OR OPERATOR OF THE BOAT. IN NO EVENT WILL GEORGETOWN HERITAGE BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. (b) GEORGETOWN HERITAGE ASSUMES NO LIABILITY IN RESPECT OF THE ACTS OR OMISSIONS OF ANY THIRD PARTY. IN ADDITION TO THE LIMITATIONS OF, AND EXEMPTIONS FROM, LIABILITY GRANTED UNDER THE AGREEMENT, GEORGETOWN HERITAGE ALSO RETAINS ANY AND ALL LIMITATIONS OF, AND EXEMPTIONS FROM, LIABILITY ACCORDED TO BOAT OWNERS AND TOUR OPERATORS BY STATUTE OR RULE OF LAW INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, THOSE PROVIDED FOR IN 46 UNITED STATESCODE APP. SECTIONS 30501 30511, WHICH ARE UNITED STATES STATUTES LIMITING THE LIABILITY OF VESSEL OWNERS. (c) TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, INCLUDING 46 UNITED STATES CODE APP. SECTIONS 30501-30511, YOU, ON BEHALF OF YOURSELF AND ANY AND ALL OF YOUR HEIRS, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS, COVENANT NOT TO SUE OR TO INSTITUTE OR CAUSE TO BE INSTITUTED ANY KINDS OF CLAIM OR ACTION IN ANY FOREIGN, FEDERAL, STATE OR LOCAL AGENCY OR COURT AGAINST US ARISING OUT OF, IN THE COURSE OF, FROM OR ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE BOAT TOUR OR THE AGREEMENT.
Time Limits for Noticing Claims and Filing and Service of Lawsuits. (a) IN ANY CASE GOVERNED BY 46 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 30508, WHICH IS A UNITED STATES STATUE THAT PERMITS ANY SHIP OWNER TO LIMIT THE TIME DURING WHICH A PASSENGER MAY FILE A CLAIM OR COMMENCE SUIT AGAINST A SHIP OWNER, YOU MAY NOT MAINTAIN A LAWSUIT AGAINST GEORGETOWN HERITAGE OR THE SHIP FOR LOSS OF LIFE OR BODILY INJURY UNLESS WRITTEN NOTICE OF THE CLAIM IS DELIVERED TO GEORGETOWN HERITAGE NOT LATER THAN SIX (6) MONTHS AFTER THE DAY OF DEATH OR INJURY, THE LAWSUIT IS COMMENCED NOT LATER THAN ONE (1) YEAR AFTER THE DAY OF DEATH OR INJURY, AND VALID SERVICE OF THE LAWSUIT ON GEORGETOWN HERITAGE IS MADE WITHIN THIRTY (30) DAYS FOLLOWING THE EXPIRATION OF THAT ONE (1) YEAR PERIOD. (b) FOR ALL OTHER CLAIMS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CLAIMS FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, BREACH OF AGREEMENT, ILLNESS OR DEATH OR INJURY, NOT GOVERNED BY 46 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 183b, YOU MAY NOT MAINTAIN A LAWSUIT AGAINST GEORGETOWN HERITAGE OR THE SHIP, NOR WILL WE OR THE SHIP BE LIABLE THEREFORE, UNLESS WE ARE PROVIDED WITH WRITTEN NOTICE OF CLAIM WITHIN THIRTY (30) DAYS AFTER CONCLUSION OF THE BOAT TOUR, THE LAWSUIT FOR SUCH CLAIM IS COMMENCED NOT LATER THAN ONE (1) YEAR AFTER CONCLUSION OF THE BOAT TOUR, AND VALID SERVICE OF THE LAWSUIT ON GEORGETOWN HERITAGE IS MADE WITHIN THIRTY (30) DAYS FOLLOWING THE EXPIRATION OF THAT ONE (1) YEAR PERIOD. IN THE CASE OF A CLAIM BY OR ON BEHALF OF A MINOR OR LEGALLY INCOMPETENT PERSON, THE TIME PERIODS DESCRIBED ABOVE SHALL BEGIN TO RUN ON THE EARLIER OF: (i) DATE OF APPOINTMENT OF A LEGAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE MINOR OR LEGALLY INCOMPETENT PERSON, OR THEIR ESTATE (AS THE CASE MAY BE); OR (ii) THREE (3) YEARS AFTER THE DAY OF DEATH, INJURY OR DAMAGE, AS APPLICABLE.
